Malefact Zine

Dunno if anyone here ever came across Malefact 'zine in the '90's, but it was cover-to-cover high quality sociopathic pen n' ink stuff, a la Mike Diana, Trevor Brown, etc. It's really hard to find these days, and I only have one copy left thanks to thieving ex-roommates and other jerkoffs (the third issue). I've combed Ebay for the last four years w/ no luck. If anyone can help hook me up with any spare back issues, I'll pay decent cash for 'em. Thanky you.

Overseen by Chad Savage and the jury that handles the World Horror Convention Art Show and spookyART.com's Gallery, the FBW Horror and Dark Art Show will showcase paintings, drawings, sculpture, jewelry, masks and other creations, by artists who specialize in the genres of horror, dark fantasy, gothic, supernatural and similarly dark topics.

2006 and the Birth of the Sinister Circuit

Roughly 10 years after my first forays on the web, the last week has seen the culmination of a LOT of ideas/concepts/endeavors that have been in my Mental Hopper for a year or so.

In the mid-90's I established my first outpost on the web - http://www.sinistervisions.com - the place where I shucked-and-jived my graphic/web design/illustration services to the potential hirin' public.

Just about 10 years hence, http://www.sinistervisions.com, while still one serious powerhouse of a website, don't quite cover it.

This last decade, I've jumped into this here internet with both feet and joyously splashed around, making connections in the horror, Halloween, haunted attraction, gothic, industrial and dark art genres with wild abandon.

Further, I've made giant leaps in getting the types of people interested in this stuff to talk to each other, work together, and embark on on- and off-line endeavors to make the world a slightly darker and more spookily artistic place for us all.

To that end, and in the interest of letting SinisterVisions.com un-clench and go back to being an art/design site, I've launched the Sinister Circuit - http://www.everythingsinister.com - which kind of soft-launched in 2005 as all those Sinister[name].com sites you might've seen.

The Sinister Circuit, which (lord knows) I'm still figuring out, is my attempt to bring some kind of order to the chaos of my affiliations, involvements, endeavors and sponsorship of all things dark'n'spooky. Conventions, art shows, artists, haunters, Halloweenies - you name it. There's a lot of'em. And we're growing.

So visit http://www.everythingsinister.com if you're currently thinking "Who the hell is this clown, anyway?" and hopefully, you'll get a sense of who I am, my passion for this Thing We Call Spooky, and what I'm trying to do.

If you'd like to become a part of the Sinister Circuit, email me at savage@sinistervisions.com and let's talk about it.

Thank you and good night.

Sinister Visions October 2005 Update

The Haunted Attraction owners have kept me up to my eyeballs in frantic last-minute work for the last few weeks, but I thought I'd take a minute and post a few updates and such.

The Sinister Visions 2005 Halloween Desktop Wallpaper is completed and ready to grace your desktop! Head on over to http://www.sinisterfonts.com and grab yours!

My 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse series of paintings is now available as prints exclusively from darkARTStore.com : http://www.darkartstore.com . Get'em before the world ends!

I'm heavily involved in 2 Chicago dark art exhibitions this October. The Seventh Annual Halloween Art Exhibit : http://www.halloweenartexhibit.com : and Echo Gallery's : http://www.echogallery.org : Annual Halloween Dark Art Exhibit. Hit both sites for details, and if you can, check out both shows - there's going to be some phenomenal artwork on display in both.

I've finally gotten around to posting photos from Flashback Weekend : http://www.sinistervisions.com/photos2/photos_fbw2005.shtml : and HorrorFind Weekend : http://www.sinistervisions.com/photos2/photos_horrorfind2005.shtml .

You can see recent website, logo and print work samples in the Portfolio Section of SinisterVisions.com : http://portfolio.sinistervisions.com/ . Lots of new haunted attraction stuff, and the launch of the official SHRINE of Hollywood website : http://www.shrinestore.com .

My artwork is featured heavily in the current issue of Cthulhu Sex Magazine : http://www.cthulhusex.com.

My good buddy Geoff Cooper's : http://www.geoffcooper.com : book "Retribution, Inc.", for which I did the cover and several interior illustrations, is now available from Cemetery Dance Publications : http://www.cemeterydance.com. CD's site doesn't let you direct-link to a product, so choose "Books", then "Novellas".

Incidentally, as a direct result of the above, I'll be doing the cover for an impending John Skipp : http://www.johnskipp.com/ : book, also from Cemetery Dance Publications, as well as illustrations for upcoming issues of Cemetery Dance Magazine, Flesh & Blood Magazine, and an upcoming Delirium Books Weston Ochse book. Stay tuned.

My painting "Looking for Linus" is on the cover of Cemetery Dance Magazine this month [Issue #53] : http://www.cemeterydance.com : just in time for Halloween. CD is also going to be turning it into a limited edition t-shirt : http://www.cemeterydance.com/html/news.shtml : get one while you can!

I have a new pumpkin painting in my series of Scary Pumpkin Paintings: Jack the Reaper: http://www.sinistergallery.com

Eight pages. Black and White.
RUIN is available online at the Chicago store Quimby's (Quimbys.com) and by request from the creator.
A nasty article of terminal psychological deterioration and misanthropic regression. It features words, photographs, hallucinations, and paintings violently spliced together to assist the reader in understanding the neurosis.

It's an awful thing that came from my head.

Photos are now online.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome here...I would love some feeback from you nice people type creatures. This sounds pathetic, but - Do you know anyone who would be interested in my stuffs? (that sounds bad...) I am trying to sell my creations to help fund a trip(s) to the doctor for my foot...I can't do my normal stagehand gigs because the foot is always angry and bulbous...yay... Any tips on how to get my name out there would be appreciated! I have created 3 pages for myself and have people posting my links on their sites...but I have had limited success. sigh...I remain happy, just frustrated. No insurance right now...it was too expensive. So, yeah...any help or advice would be well received...If you ever visit Norfolk, VA I will buy you a beverage of your choice.....Thanks!

Seeking dark art for event

Hello,
I run a gothic, industrial dance event in San Francisco known as *SWIRL* - we are seeking to enhance the event's imagery right now by 1) a black club T-shirt with artwork in white and 2) a better website logo/graphic. The current presentation and theme is available at the website: http://www.sirencry.com and the tribe: http://clubswirl.tribe.net. Basic guidelines are work that is dynamic ethereal, incorporates swirls, etc...actually I'm open to your concepts, though I suggest against macabre and grotesque ;-)

If you would be interested in contributing artwork, please direct me to an online portfolio or samples of previous work. Preference will be given to those willing to be compensated with credit and reference for a portfolio, although a modest fee may be warranted for great work + a quick turnaround time.

Look forward to hearing from you!

NEW ENGLAND: Medieval Repertory forming - all disciplines needed

Greetings -

I'm putting together a troupe of players who will perform medieval inspired plays / circus / happenings and I want to gather together a creative team together who can make this project a reality. We can take our magic into schools, festivals, prisons, community organizations, medieval societies, theatre festivals or anywhere our hearts desire.

We need investors, backers, supporters, angels, call them what you will - they will provide 'seed' and development money.

We need writers, producers, directors and production designers.

We also need set designers to plan sets that can be transported easily and can be set up quickly, but will have HUGE impact. The set should be able to change with simple adjustments by the cast. It should be able to be used in parks, parking lots, community centers, fairs, festivals and anywhere else we find ourselves performing.

We also need costumes based on medieval traveling players, but with a twist - fantasy, gothic etc.

Medieval players depended a great deal on masks. Someone with design and building skills would be a great asset.

Finally, we will need people with musical, circus, dancing and performing skills – belly dancers, jugglers, fire twirlers and assorted medieval outcasts.

I want this to be a collective / collaborative ensemble, where we all reap the benefits of our hard work.

The shows will be set in another time, but will comment directly on what is happening politically today.

See the Daughters of Elvin site for an idea of what I'm planning (although I’d like to see our efforts ‘darker’ and less ‘clean’ than this:

http://www.endicott-studio.com/jMA0301/daughters.html

If you want to get in at the groundfloor of this idea, please get in contact.

Visit my websites at:
http://www.raypriceonline.com
http://www.trouzbras.com

Leave a message at keltikdancer@gmail.com

I thank you ...

DeviantART... Sticks and Bones

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with things in a while. I posted another pic in the album. It's part of my "Sticks and Bones" series. I had to complete a series of 7 drawings for a class. This is roughly 4'x3'. I drew it by taping my materials to the ends of long sticks in order to force myself away from the page in an attempt to loosen up. I find myself getting to soft and blendy when I draw, this kind of kept some of the raw lines in.

The rest of the series can be seen at my deviantART site: http://dlusionlvr.deviantart.com/

I'm sure you're aware of this great site. For those of you who are clueless as to how to create your own fabulous sites and want to network with solely artists, check it out. There are both free and paid accounts. I really love it. In fact I think it's a great place to post your work even if you do have your own site and just want people to link up to it.

World Horror Convention 2005 Art Show Update

Hi, all -

Many artists have been asking about set-up and breakdown times and art show
hours for the WHC2005. I'm still waiting for this information. I'll pass it
on the second I receive it - thanks for your patience.

What I can tell you is that art show setup will begin on Thursday the 7th
and will be handled by the inimitable D. E. "GrendelsDen.net" Christman, whose assistance at
Convergence 10 last year was indispensable. Dave will be on hand Thursday
to help artists get checked in and set up. I'll be arriving Thursday night and
will be there for the rest of the show.

Art check-in will be all day Thursday and Friday, so no worries if you're
not getting in 'til Friday. Specific hours forthcoming.

Breakdown/checkout will begin Sunday morning; again, specific hours
forthcoming.

The deadline for art show registration is March 26th.

Just introducing myself to the tribe- I'm just starting out as an artist, have my BFA, attending grad school. I'm a third-year teacher of art in public school, and I'm the Assistant Director of a children's art camp. My work is abstract so it has more of a dark "feel" than being illustratively spooky. I've posted one photo of my current series in the album. It's called "Blue Bones" and it's about 4'x4' in mixed media. Take a look and tell me what you think.

OPi8.com: Getting the Promotion Engine Rolling

OPi8.com, if you haven't heard of it, is a promotion site for artists offering exclusive web comics, stories, artist interviews, reviews, editorial columns, and soon to be music and sound sculptures. If it's dark, depraved, disturbing, viceral, violent, or raunchy it's place is on this site.

Early in 2003 OPi8.com experienced a serious dry spell that is only recently being lifted. The site is in the midst of an overhaul, but new comics, art, and/or articles are put up every week.

Jump over there, take a look. There's bound to be something there you like. You might want to see your own work up there. Hell, you might already have something on there.

I'm just the fucking messenger, shoot me.
http://opi8.com/

(Chad - I would love to have your stuff up on OPi8.com again, currently it's all missing)

As of today, I'll be stepping in to head up the WHC2005 Art Show. We are in the process of gathering and collating paperwork, contact info, and the other 500 elements I need to get familiar with in the next 48 hours, and then a massive mailing will go out to all juried artists.

The WHC2005 website's Art Show page will be updated shortly, as well. http://www.whc2005.org

If you're interested in exhibiting your art at this convention, there's still time to have your work juried - go to http://www.whc2005.org/whc_artshow.html for details

I'm also setting up a mailing/discussion list specifically for the WHC Art Show - go here http://sinistervisions.net/mailman/listinfo/whc-art-show_sinistervisions.net to sign up for it.

Stay tuned.

Fundraiser!!!

I have been taking taekwondo for some years now. In just under a month, I'll be finally be taking my black belt test. However, there are fees involved, and with the bills I already have, coupled with the low pay that I get from my job, there is just no way I can cover it without, say, not eating for a month. Which would be detrimental to my training to say the least.

So I am asking any to donate what they can, any amount will be appreciated. But just so you can get something tangible from this (besides the warm feeling of helping me out), for any donation of $20 or more, I will send a print (8.5" x 11") of nearly any piece displayed on my "http://www.sponge-studio.com" Not all are available for sale, mainly because I do not have the model's permission yet on certain pieces. I will let you know which ones when you inquire. And of course, multiples of $20 = multiple prints.

I have a PayPal account set up (accessible by the button on the "http://www.sponge-studio.com/store.html" page on the site). Unfortunately for now it is only set up for transfers from bank accounts, not credit cards yet. Someday, someday...

Once the goal is met, I will make sure it is known. However, if you still wish to purchase prints, that would be most welcome too!

I will greatly appreciate any and all contributions.

Making introductions...I just got turned on to Tribe.

We're a subculture arts gallery in Sacramento, CA. Serving up an unhealthy dose of dark art is always in our recipe for suburban decay, with the likes of some extraordinary talents by the likes of artists, David Ho, Stephen Kasner, Dark Vomit (Kelly Hutchinson), and my partner in crime, Jamio...just to name a few.

Please check us out at http://www.chambergallery.com and tell your friends.

Thank you,

You folks might be interested in this.
I play photoshop tennis on occasion. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's when one person serves an image, then the other person takes a part of that image and works it into another image, going back and forth. Sometimes a storyline in created. Cool stuff.
Anyway, I got the URL of a site where you can get free stock images of dark stuff for playing such things.
The URL is: www.deviantart.com. Please make sure you read the rules for use on the stock images.
If you want to see a thread of PS tennis, here's the one I'm currently playing:

Anybody on here good at javascript or know of any good online resources (ones that aren't 10 years old at least, like I keep finding). I'm stuck on creating a gallery page on my new site...I want it so that when you mouseover the thumbnails, the bigger picture appears on the left side of the page.
I grabbed the code from a site, but haven't been able to make it work properly. Right now the pics just appear over the thumbs, only thumb-size of course. I'd *really* like to get this site done before Convergence!

This is a bit of an experiment. Try to make something that could be used as a CD sleeve and try to keep the image minimal. I like how it turned out so much I'm going to try it out again.

Maybe we could get our art together and do something really sappy and tender, be all artsy and, stuff, yeah, Gonna put up my stuff in a while, getting tem worked down to size first.

Sinister Visions March Update

Well, it's been anything but boring since the last Sinister Visions update...

First, rumor control. Yes, my wife had a brain tumor, which was successfully removed last week. She's home now and on the mend. Thank you to all those who have sent their support (in all the forms that support has taken!).

I've had a couple of people tell me they haven't requested work/quotes from Sinister Visions for fear that I can't deal with such things right now. I assure you this is not the case. SV is VERY open for business and waiting to assist you with your next graphic project!

That said, apologies to current clients who didn't hear from me this week when expected - now you know why!

===================================================

SINISTER eCARDS

As promised, http://www.sinistergreetings.com is up and awaiting your dark eCard needs. It's still under construction (adding Flash support), but there are 35 cards up and I'm working on tons more!

===================================================

SINISTER VISIONS

There's new logos, websites, and art up for perusal at http://www.sinistervisions.com , with a bunch more currently in the works. Current projects in development include new sites for author and fetish diva Christa Faust and award-winning dark artist Alan M. Clark, illustrations and cover art for a forthcoming book by author Geoff Cooper, and all kinds of other cool stuff.

The Sinister family of sites (SinisterDolls.com, SinisterHosting.com, SinisterSonics.com, SinisterGreetings.com and soon SinisterStore.com) have undergone unifying facelifts to make them all easier to navigate. SinisterVisions.com will be receiving some much-needed attention to its navigation panel as soon as time permits!

As ever, suggestions, wish-lists, and ideas for Sinister Stuff are welcome and encouraged!

===================================================

CARNOPOLIS

I'll have artwork appearing in issue #3 of Carnopolis: Cosmic Horror Illustrated (18+ only!). This is a great dark art/comic magazine with an old school penchant for zombies, tentacled beasts and girls girls girls! http://www.carnopolis.com

===================================================

CONVERGENCE 10 ART SHOW

The submissions phase of the art show has closed, and registration will commence shortly. We're still ironing out the logistics that will affect hanging fees and so forth, and the events of the past week have understandably delayed things a bit. For information about the art show, visit http://www.altgothic.com/c10chicago/14artshow.html . Information will be posted as it is solidified.

To find out more about the Convergence Convention (now in its 10th year!), visit http://www.altgothic.com/c10chicago/

===================================================

TRANSWORLD 2004

Transworld was a blast and it was great to meet so many of you there. I've posted photos at http://www.sinistervisions.com/photos2/photos_transworld2004.html

Zombo the Clown made an appearance at the Haunted Attraction Magazine Costume Ball... sans hair! Zombald the Clown!

===================================================

WORLD HORROR CONVENTION 2004

Due to the recovery time brain surgery demands, I won't be able to make it to WHC2004 this year. Dammit.

===================================================

TRIBE.NET

I'm moderating a dark art Tribe - http://spookyart.tribe.net - drop in and talk about your favorite spooky eye candy. 45 members strong and counting!

===================================================

I'm plowing through the mountain of email that built up during Transworld and the following week of hospital time, so bear with me while I get caught up!

Convergence Art Show Update

Hello, all -

This is just a status update about the art show.

We are in the final stages of paperwork and bureaucracy with the hotel; once everything's official, we can start nailing down specifics for the show. In the meantime, here's some general info and reminders:

1] Deadline for submissions is March 15. That means that if you want to participate in the show, you need to have submitted art for review before March 15. Please note that posting to this list does not constitute submitting your art for review; you MUST email me off-list and declare your intentions specifically, as per the guidelines at http://www.sinistervisions.net/c10/

2] Actual registration will begin on March 16. In other words, the part where you actually fill out forms, send a check/PayPal payment (see below), and decide specifically what you're going to show.

3] Because the hotel charges us for everything from the room to the equipment on which art will hang to the lighting to the ELECTRICITY we'll use (yes, I'm serious), there will be a space-based hanging fee which has yet to be determined. Once we have all the information we need, we'll determine a reasonable price for pre-determined increments of hanging space. Artists who wind up showing their work will be the ones who submit their hanging fee and registration forms the soonest, as space will go on a first-come, first-served basis.

4] Reminder: Getting approved to be in the show does NOT guarantee you a space. See above.

5] There are some preliminary things to consider that have been posted at http://www.sinistervisions.net/c10/ - take a look. Some of them may seem harsh; they are not intended that way. We have to cover our butts. We can't have somebody being irresponsible with their own artwork and then blaming us if something happens to it. Hence, the CYA attitude. Nothing personal.

6] DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ARTWORK as a submission unless you make specific arrangements to do so in advance.

I've seen the proposed space for the art show and it's very cool. I don't want to say more until it's locked up, so I'll wait.

As ever, questions and concerns are encouraged.

Chad

Convergence 10 Art Show Open for Submissions

Convergence 10 : http://www.altgothic.com/c10chicago/
Convergence 10 Art Show : http://www.sinistervisions.net/c10/

The Convergence 10 Art Show is now accepting submissions from artists wishing to participate.

Submitted artwork will be juried. Submission does NOT guarantee inclusion. Artwork should be of general interest to the gothic/industrial/fetish community, and must display a reasonable degree of skill and ability. All traditional media are acceptable; unusual art forms, art that requires a power supply, art that is large/heavy, or art that may present a risk to C10 attendees will be considered and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Details about the Art Show itself are still pending. Information will be made available as soon as possible, including any related hanging/space fees, commission, etc.

Acceptance into the Art Show puts the accepted artist under absolutely no obligation. If you submit art and are accepted, but then can't do the show, it's not a problem at this phase.

3 WAYS TO SUBMIT YOUR ART

1] Email a link to your images, web site or online gallery to c10artshow@sinistervisions.net <<< THIS IS THE PREFERRED METHOD. Please make sure your links are accurate - dead links won't be investigated.

2] Email no less than 3 and no more than 10 image files to c10artshow@sinistervisions.net.

* Image files should be no larger than 500 pixels in width or height, 72 dpi, and should not exceed 150K each.

* .GIF, .JPG, .TIF, .PNG, .PSD or .EPS files are acceptable.

* Images may be sent in a .ZIP or .SIT file

* MAC USERS: Make sure your files have the proper .XXX file extension

* If you send a virus with your images, you will not be included in the show. So be careful.

3] If you need to send actual, physical examples of your work, email c10artshow@sinistervisions.net for instructions

Questions? Email c10artshow@sinistervisions.net

Jessica Galbreth's Night Magick

Check out www.night-magick.com. Jessica is an artist I had the pleasure of meeting while living in Ohio. She's as lovely as her art and one of the most talented painters to come from the area. She also has a not so spooky collection at www.enchanted-art.com.
